This is a classic work that was reprinted during the middle of the Vietnam War, during a time of significant Cold War tension, and during a time when there was a resurgence of peace activism among portions of the religious/faith communities. The editor is believed to be Colonel Arthur Espie Porritt, Baron Porritt, Bt, GCMG, GCVO, CBE, FRCS (10 August 1900 - 1 January 1994) was a New Zealand physician, military surgeon, statesman and athlete. He won a bronze medal at the 1924 Summer Olympics in the 100 m sprint. He served as the 11th governor-general of New Zealand from 1967 to 1972. Henry Wickham Steed (10 October 1871 - 13 January 1956) was an English journalist and historian. He was editor of The Times from 1919 to 1922. Seen as a leading expert on Eastern Europe, Steed's views had much influence with decision-makers such as high-level bureaucrats and Cabinet politicians in the First World War and its aftermath. James Arthur Salter, 1st Baron Salter, GBE, KCB, PC (15 March 1881 - 27 June 1975) was a British politician and academic, who played an important role in the foundations of pan-European government. Ruth Cranston (pseudonym, Anne Warwick; November 14, 1887 - April 2, 1956) was an American author and lecturer on religion and other subjects. She worked in Geneva for ten years promoting international cooperation movements.
