Sobre este artículo
London: Eveleigh Nash, 1907. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. B. T. B. [Lord Basil Temple Blackwood]. First printing, octavo size, 80 pp. This collection of verses, intended as a parody of cautionary tales written for children, was written by Hilaire Belloc (1870-1953), a prolific writer and poet as well as an avid sailor; he composed many poems of both comic and serious nature, and he would often collaborate with the noted writer G. K. Chesterton. Belloc wrote several volumes of children's poetry, often for the purpose of parody and humour, and these works brought him commercial success and acclaim.
"Cautionary Tales" is illustrated by Belloc's friend and frequent collaborator Lord Basil Temple Blackwood (1870-1917), styled here as "B. T. B."; Blackwood's illustrations have a simplicity of style and capture the comic tone of the poems.
___DESCRIPTION: Full dove-grey paper, red lettering and black line drawing by Blackwood on the front board, title page with black line drawing of a lion attacking a child, numerous black line drawings throughout; octavo size (9.5" by 8"), pagination: [1-8] 9-79 [80].
___CONDITION: Volume is very good, with a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and the boards are clean overall with only some minor soiling; some sunning to the spine and lightly to the edges of the boards, some rubbing to the corners and to the head and tail of the spine, corners are gently bumped, toning and light soiling to the endpapers, title page has a vertical crease towards the gutter margin (not affecting text nor the illustration), the gutter at pages 32 and 33 is slightly cracked (text block is still strong). Although the volume has some minor wear, overall it is a very good copy, with clean and bright illustrations and a sturdy text block.
___CITATION: Cahill no. 24A
___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please inquire for details.
