Troy: Nims & Knight, Pubs., 1882 Unnumbered pp.; HB. ca. 1888. 16 gorgeous "translations on copper" etchings of works of art hors texte on very heavy stock w/ captioned tissue guards. Beautiful and wonderful in-text illustrations as well. Artists include Breton, Cuyp, Drefregger, Detaille, Duez, Flameng, Kauffmann, Laufberger, Munkacsy, Nordgren, Obermullner, Rubens, Schonleber, Uhde, and Zezzos. Etchers include Flameng, Unger, Kuhn, Woernle, Monzies, Forberg. Sonnenleiter, Schonleber, and Krauskopf. Pages: clean, bright, tight, a.e.g., decorative eps, artwork frontis w/ captioned tissue guard; all leaves dampstained bottom crnr w/ mild waviness which does not affect artwork, front hinge cracked (intact), frontis tissue guard bottom crnr yapped (manufacturer's defect) so a bit tattered., 4 items laid in at end of Franz Defregger text have toned verso of following Breton artwork (does not show on artwork), in some instances, text has transferred through tissue guard to facing artwork. Exterior: sage silk, embossed rose/sage ornamentation front/spine, reverse/black artwork front, gilt titles front/spine; moderate shelfwear, extremities well worn, a few worn through areas on edges. Quite large, impressive, and beautiful. Solid, heavy. Certainly scarce, possibly rare. A wonderful gift for the connoisseur.

Our book rating standards are as follows; nearly all of our stock is VG or better: As New (AN)-just as states, clean, bright, tight, no defects. Fine-AN, but not as bright, minor marks or other minor defects. Very Good (VG)-small to modest tears, chips, marks, cocked etc. Good (G)-not so much, with larger tears or chips, possibly soiled, cocked, etc. Fair-ugly, with pages or large areas of DJ missing or other major defects. Poor(P)-truly ugly, disbound or requiring other major rehabilitation. We stabilize most minor defects with archival quality materials, and with few exceptions, these stabilizations are reversible
