[From Foreword] ForewordThe prestige Salmagundi Club has merited over the past century is due to its members who contributed so much to the art and cultural life of our City, State and Nation.Listed in this Centennial Roster are all of our known members from November (or it may have been December) 1871 to July 1, 1972; a veritable Who's Who in the Art World. It gives one a sense of pride that we of this generation are privileged to carry on the great traditions and principles laid down by our founders. That we shall continue to do so is our pledge to the world of art and to future Salmagundians. * *In compiling this Roster a great deal of research was necessary. We are indebted to Dr. Arthur C. C. Hill and Dr. David J. Impastato who, as Chairmen of our Library Committee, .supervised this monumental task. Especially do we thank Alvin J. Arnheim, Eliot P. Batchelder,Joseph DiGemma, Sidney Hermel, Louis D. Liskin, Dr. dark Marlor, Worthen Paxton, Rudolph Schwartz, Herbert L. Smith and R. Harmer Smith, for their invaluable services in making this publication possible.
