Bel exemplaire Envoi autographe signé de Romain Gary à Jean Tranape, Compagnon de la Libération, qui s'engagea dès septembre 1940, après le ralliement de la Nouvelle-Calédonie à la France Libre, dans le bataillon du Pacifique du commandant Félix Broche. Héros de Bir Hakeim, il fut blessé pendant la campagne d'Italie et à nouveau dans les combats pour la libération de Toulon. Il fut porte-drapeau du 1er bataillon d'infanterie de marine lors du défilé de la victoire sur les Champs-Elysées. [ENGLISH TRANSLATION FOLLOWS] First edition, one of 450 numbered copies on vergé Ivoire especially printed for the Companions of Liberation. A fine copy. Signed and inscribed by Romain Gary to Jean Tranape, Companion of Liberation, who enlisted in September 1940, after New Caledonia joined the Free French Forces, and fought in Commander Félix Broche's bataillon du Pacifique. A hero of the battle of Bir Hakeim, he was wounded during the Italian campaign and again in the fighting to liberate Toulon. He was flag-bearer for the 1st Marine Infantry Battalion during the victory parade on the Champs-Elysées.
