Sobre este artículo

Miami, FL: Historical Museum of Southern Florida, Inc., 1984. Octavo, paperbound (stapled stiff tan illus. wrappers), 110 pp. Fine (As New). A permanent record of nearly 500 years of significant maps depicting Florida. From Introduction: The early perceptions of the shape of Florida arose from personal observations, heresay, or descriptions written in a diary or log...Bearing these conditions in mind one is often amazed at the accuracy with which the Florida peninsula is depicted on early maps...In this exhibition we are trying to demonstrate some of the various perceptions of the shape of Florida and the Caribbean as depicted at various times by various mapmakers...We have accumulated, for the first time in recent memory and in numbers hertofore unmatched, examples of some of the finest maps in the world showing Florida as a peninsula (the Cantino Planisphere of 1502). The latest is a Lansat (satellite) image...We have tried to use photocopies or facsimilies only where the map was a first or demonstrated some important historical fact, and an original is not available...Many of the maps were chosen for their sheer beauty, some for their inaccuracies and most for their historic interest. An effort has been made to represent as many mapmakers as possible, and as wide a variety of styles and methods of production as possible...
