Sobre este artículo

West , Jordan & Company, 1839. Hardcover. Good Plus. This is the first attempt at a biographical statement on Thomas Jefferson after the initial publication of some of his in 1829 . Dwight , the President of Yale and a leader of the Federalists , notes that the vicious tone of opinion by Federalists on Jefferson has cooled by 1839 . In fact , he admits that the Federalist Party has disappeared . He even notes : " It is very doubtful whether , in the whole extent of political history , a more singular and extraordinary personage can be found than Thomas Jefferson " . He then proceeds for 368 pages to shed doubt on this conclusion . He attacks Jefferson for not offering his full support for the Constitution in 1787 . This from the same Dwight who was the Secretary to the Hartford Convention . He accuses Jefferson of hypocrisy and lack of loyalty for his writings in his " Ana " about George Washington . He believes Jefferson lied about meddling in the House as the election of 1800 was decided there . And more . Yet , this is an important and now very scarce publication . It does illustrate how deep and how long lasting the political division was . The publisher had difficulty with this publication . There is an extensive errata sheet . In addition , page 14 is on the back pf page 2 . There is no break in the text . All of the text is present This is a pagination error . .The text ends on page 368 and Appendix " IX " begins on page 369 . Again , no Appendix material before " IX ' is missing . The one Appendix presents a letter from Madison to Washington and the last part of the letter , page 371 , is missing . Both the front and back endpapers are missing . Yet , overall , this is a sound copy . The calf covered boards and spine are in remarkably good condition . The hinge and all signatures are tight . Except for the name of a previous owner on the title page , the book is clean , no marks in the text .
