Sobre este artículo

New York: John Wiley and Sons, 1911 Hard cover, oblong 4to, 96pp. First Edition, First Printing, (stated as one of 1000 copies). In blue cloth with gilt titles. Condition: Very Good. There is minor rubbing to the both boards and corners. There is some spotting to the front board. Spine is a bit worn at head and tail, with the remains of an old library label. Endpapers are browned (rear has library card holder attached). The interior pages are less age-toned. Ex-library, with War Service Library bookplate to front pastedown plus stamps. ** Abbot Lawrence Rotch (1861-1912) pioneered the use of meteorological measurement by kite and sounding balloon, making "upper air measurements from ships in the tropical and sub-tropical North Atlantic." This volume uses the data so obtained to chart aerial routes and thus "the feasibility of air travel aided by air patterns." Contains 24 illustrated and explicated Charts of the Atmosphere. Rotch was also founder and patron of Massachusetts's Blue Hill Meteorological Observatory outside of Boston. This is a very rare item of early aeronautical history. OCLC 3474561.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good.

Sobre Dark and Stormy Night Books

Now in our eighteenth year, Dark and Stormy Night Books is an online bookstore,
selling Rare, Antiquarian and "other interesting finds" to individuals and institutions around the world. Some of our books are now housed among the world's leading libraries and collections.

We work to promote the significance of a wide variety of ideas, from whatever era they might originate. We celebrate, and work to preserve, the artistry of the printed page, the handwritten word, and the craftsmanship of the hand-made object in today's virtual, digital world.
