Sobre este artículo
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1961. 402 pp. Red cloth with blind embossing on front and gold lettering on spine. Top edge red stained. Front free endpaper is dated May 1961 and inscribed in ink: "To Charlotte Mochrie, our 'Miss Mochrie,' to whom we all are, and have good reason to be, devoted. Most gratefully, William Maxwell" and "'So strange, life is. Why people do not go around in a continual state of surprise is beyond me.' p. 393" A review of the book from the March 21, 1961 New York Herald Tribune is laid in in the rear. Binding clean, tight and square with only the slightest rubbing to corners and spine ends. Top edge has three spots. Front endpapers toned by what was probably a newspaper article, not affecting legibility of inscription. Two letters of "Maxwell" smudged but legibility is intact. Text block is clean, square and tight throughout. Dust jacket is in three pieces: disconnected at rear spine and flap. Extremities are chipped and toned. Jacket is now well protected in mylar sleeve. Miss Mochrie was an English teacher at the Brearley School in Manhattan from the 1920s to 1950s and was a book collector. This copy was acquired from her heirs.. Inscribed & Signed By Author. Second Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/Poor. 8vo.
