Sobre este artículo

Carter, Hendee And Co., Boston, 1832; First Edition; 12mo; i-xii; 1-264; original cloth; paper title label. An examination of the causes for the unhappiness of mankind, with suggestions for reestablishing inner peace. Authored by ordained Unitarian minister Warren Burton (1800-1866), chaplain to Worcester, Mass. prison in 1849, thrice chaplain to the Massachusetts legislature 1852-1860, and lifelong advocate of improved education. Of little formal education Burton nevertheless gained admittance to Harvard, graduating in 1821 and entering Cambridge Theological School. The spectrum of his interests was wide, and he wrote and lectured on subjects ranging from phrenology, to the importance of proper English grammar, to the beauty and grandeur of Nature. His influential work "The District School As It Was," a detailed account of his years at the schoolhouse in his home town of Wilton, New Hampshire, was published the year prior. Good. Hinge seams tender, light cloth wear at spine extremities, title label faded, gift inscription on front paste down above remnants of an antique engraved label of the First Congregational Unitarian Church lending library of Vineland, New Jersey, no stamps or other library appurtenances of any kind. Scattered moderate foxing. A scarce first edition of this book.
