Tanqueray, le Conseil Général d'Oran”.The errata slip informs the reader that the map and the longitudinal profiles which should accompany this volume will be sent shortly.The appendix beginning on p. 97 discusses the work done by Duponchel who was the originator of the plan that was finally adopted.Work on this project did not begin until the Vichy Government in WWII started the line. Slave labor was used, including Jews from concentration camps, thousands died from disease and hunger and beatings which were carried out for the least infraction of the harsh rules. Most work was done in 1940/41, by 1944 the line was abandoned due to lack of money and the worsening war for the Germans. The railway was never completed.
