Published shortly after he had won the World's Chess Championship. Reprinted 1922, 1923, 1926, 1931, 1937, 1941, 1942, 1945, 1946, 1948 and reset edition published in 1951. A knowledge of the elements is assumed. A graded course of instruction, with a general first chapter, the subjects of which are re-examined in more detail in succeeding chapters. Part two comprises 14 games played by Capablanca, with annotations, including notes on the openings.

José Raúl Capablanca y Graupera was a Cuban chess player who was world chess champion from 1921 to 1927. One of the greatest players of all time, he was renowned for his exceptional endgame skill and speed of play. Due to his achievements in the chess world, mastery over the board and his relatively simple style of play he was nicknamed the "Human Chess Machine". He is widely regarded as the most naturally talented chess player in history.

The 2nd American Chess Congress was held at the Kennard House in Cleveland, 5-15 December 1871. Two decisive games (+2, -2, or +1 -1) were required against each opponent. There were 73 total games. No dates or round numbers are given in the tournament book. Players were responsible for playing from 9-12 am, 2-5 pm, and 7-10 pm each day, but may have been able to arrange their own time of play, and sequence of opponents. The Ohio newspapers have more details, including dates for most of the games.
The players: George Henry Mackenzie led an interesting life away from the chessboard. Eight players were invited to participate, including two very strong masters: Aron Nimzowitsch from Denmark, and Akiba Rubinstein from Poland. They met with six German chess masters that included Jacques Mieses, Friedrich Sämisch, Oscar Antze, Hans Duhm, Hermann Von Gottschall, and Walther Von Holzhausen. Games were played from August 9th to the 18th. Nimzowitsch won with a near perfect score of 6½ of 7, edging out Rubinstein by half a point. The prizes were awarded to the players at the Hotel Luisenhof. Typed letter from Harry Golombek to a reader's query about a game score in the August issue of British Chess Magazine 1954. Signed by Golombek in pencil.

Harry Golombek OBE (March 1, 1911â€"January 7, 1995), was a British chess International Master and honorary grandmaster, chess arbiter, and chess author.

He was three times British chess champion, in 1947, 1949, and 1955. He was the chess correspondent of The Times newspaper from 1945 to 1989. He was an official of the Fédération Internationale des Échecs, and served as Arbiter for several important events, including the Candidates' Tournament of 1959 in Yugoslavia. He was also editor of some well-known collections of games such as Capablanca's and Réti's, and was a well respected author. He was editor of British Chess Magazine from 1938 to 1940, and its overseas editor throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Golombek also translated several chess books from Russian into English. 15 unpaginated daily bulletins, each 3 pages. Octavo (8" x 5 3/4") issued in wrappers. First edition.Mar del Plata has a rich history of chess tournaments, including their international chess tournament and open tournament. There is also an annual city tournament, which had its first edition in 1946, and reached its 62nd edition in 2007. The international tournament started off in 1928, but only in the period from 1941 to 1970 was it a truly international tournament with considerable reputation. After 1970, only seven international tournaments have been played. The 1951, 1954, 1969 and 2001 editions were zonal tournaments. The 1958 contest was held at the Hotel Provincial in Mar del Plata. and is part of an iconic beachfront complex, built in 1946 by the celebrated architect Alejandro Bustillo.

One page type written letter Quarto (10 1/4" x 8") on Alain C White's Chess Problem Letter Head as Curator to Gilbert Dobbs signed at the bottom.In the letter Hume is inquiring to a problems which he enclosed (not included) on whether it had been previous published and questioning the solution.George Hume was a British composer and one of the main actors of the "Good Companion" Chess Club. He collected two-movers and used this collection to detect anticipations. He participated to the edition of many books of the White Christmas Series such as Changing Fashions, Valves and Bi-Valves, Flights of Fancy in the Chess World and The Good Companion Two-Mover published in 1922.Gilbert S Dobbs (1867-1941) was an American problemist who specialized in two-movers. Hundreds of his composition have been published by White and Cheney in G. Dobbs. A Chess Silhouette (1942).Condition:Folds for mailing, small chips at folds else a very good copy.

Descripción:
19 unpaginated tournament bulletins (approximately 55 pages) with tables. Octavo (8 1/2" x 5 1/2) bound in individual bulletin wrappers. First edition.The first Argentine Chess Championship was held in 1921. The Champion's title was granted after victorious or drawn match between previous champion and challenger, a winner of Torneo Mayor. The matches were done away in 1950 year, except for 1952. From 1953 the tournament was changed to an all-round invitation, although in many cases it was played with the Swiss system.
The 33rd championship was played in 1955 with Miguel Najdorf the victor in a twenty player contested event. Hector Rossetto was a clear second with a score of 14.5 one and half points behind the leader, followed by Erich Eliskases at 13.5.Condition:Edge wear, occasional notes, punch hole to hinges, hand drawn cross table indicating game pages else a very good copy.

Helmut Pfleger (born August 6, 1943) is a German chess grandmaster and author. He was one of the most promising chess players in the 1960s and 1970s. From 1977 until 2005, Pfleger hosted a series of chess programs on German public TV, including Chess of the Grandmasters, often together with grandmaster Vlastimil Hort. By profession, he is a doctor of medicine.
Klaus Bischoff (born 9 June 1961 in Ulm) is a German chess player who was awarded the Grandmaster title by FIDE in 1990. In international tournaments, he has taken a share of first place on a number of occasions, including Kecskemét 1988, Arosa 1996, Recklinghausen 1999, Essen 2000, Bad Zwesten 2003 and Bad Zwesten again in 2005. An elementary text, containing a brief survey of chess literature (Chess and chess writers), a description of the elements, a chapter giving the first few moves of the openings, and other sections on "ends of games" (elementary mates), Games actually played (5 examples), prob3ems with examples (7) and general rules for playing the game, with a list of places where chess is played (in England) and a list of chess periodicals. The American edition is slightly re-arranged pagination, otherwise as the English edition except for the omission of the final list of places where played and periodicals.
