[North Montpelier, VT]: The Driftwind Press. Very Good; Wraps soiled.. 1931. First Edition. Softcover. One of 250 copies. Yellow printed wraps. Introduction by Walter John Coates. Tyler was a Harvard lawyer noted for helping to suppress Shay's Rebellion, who later moved to Vermont, eventually becoming a law professor and Chief Justice of the Vermont Supreme Court. He also wrote poems and plays, including "The Contrast", in 1787, which is noted by The Oxford Companion to American Literature as being the second play and the first comedy to be written by an American author. "The Chestnut Tree" is a longish poem foretelling a more industrialized New England and America. This 1824 poem was believed lost until a handwritten copy was found among a descendant's papers.
