Sobre este artículo

Nicely illustrated vintage copy of "THE CHILDREN OF DICKENS" by Samuel McChord Crothers. Uncommon copy with its original dust jacket. 1946; Charles Scribner's Sons; New York. This edition features ten full-page color illustrations by Jessie Willcox Smith. Illustrated end papers in color.

The contents are as follows: London Once Upon a Time; Dickens Himself; Pip; David Copperfield; Wilkins Micawber Junior and His Parents; On the Road to Dover; Joe the Fat Boy; Oliver Twist; The Jellyby Children; Sissy Jupe; The Child of the Marshalsea; The Cratchits; The Doll's Dressmaker; Little Nell; The Kenwigses; The Child's Story; The Boy at Todgers's; The Dombey Children; Jemmy Jackman Lirriper's Story; On the Way to Gretna Green; Our School; Alicia in Wonderland; The Infant Phenomenon; A Christmas Tree.

From the dust jacket: "'When I think of London as it was once upon a time, that is the time when Charles Dickens lived in it.' So Dr. Crothers tells children in his introduction to this book. A scholar and lover of Dickens, he has been able to present to children the London of Dickens, and Charles Dickens Himself, as no one else has done with equal success. Through these stories a child meets, with pleasure and understanding, David Copperfield, the Jellyby Children, Little Nell, the Dombeys, Tiny Tim, and others. As they become his friends he will want to read more about them, and he is likely to go on from this fascinating introduction to the books themselves."

Condition:
Clean covers and spine. Sharp cover corners. Bright gilt lettering on the spine. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Nice interior - the pages are clean and nearly appear unread with only a small, light stain spot at the outer edge of pages 55 & 56. Previous owner's bookplate affixed to front end paper. Overall the book is in Very Good+ condition. The dust jacket has small tears along the perimeter; the price has been clipped from the front flap; bits of paper are missing at the top edge of the spine; a bit of the top paper layer has peeled away near the top-left corner of the front cover...overall the jacket is in Good condition.
