London: Marcus Ward, circa 1879. Proof. Sheet. Near fine. Kate Greenaway. Classic Kate Greenaway lithographic trade card proofs. Eight scenes, including four of a child's flower processional, and four of Victorian ladies. Uncut and complete. Toning due to age. Previous owner's notation and price on back side. A rare find for any Greenaway or Victoriana collector. 12 1/2 x 18 inches. Kate Greenaway (Catherine Greenaway) Born London, March 17, 1846 - Died November 6, 1901Kate Greenaway (often spelt incorrectly as Kate Greenway) was an English artist and illustrator/writer of children's book, cards, calendars and much more. Her subjects mainly consisted of children, young girls, flowers and landscapes. She was the daughter of John Greenaway a well-known draughtsman and engraver on wood.Kate completed a course at Heatherleys life classes and the Slade School in South Kensington. It was soon after completing these studies in 1868 that she started to exhibit watercolor drawings at the Dudley Gallery in London. By 1877 her drawings at Dudley Gallery were selling for 54 pounds. In 1868 she also started to design greeting cards for Marcus Ward. Over the years many of these were also used for calendar and book illustrations. During the period from 1868 to 1878 some of the cards were registered at Stationers' Hall but not in her name. The first recorded design at Stationers' Hall in her name was in 1879. By this stage she had also been working for other publishers such as Goodall. --- from kate greenaway cards site

Leroy, Marion County, Florida : Co-operative Land and Improvement Company SCARCE 8 page promotional newspaper, illustrated. Very Good, light soiling, small tears at fold edges. No date circa 1888-1891, the only copy located at WorldCat at the University of Virginia gives a date of 1888, and last date found in articles in the paper is 1887. However the article on subscribing to the Leroy (Florida) News notes that it started publishing April 15, and Library of Congress shows that the paper was only published in 1891. Adding to the credibility of an 1891 date, the UVA copy notes a map illustration, and the illustrations in this copy are all of buildings. "The former town of Leroy seems to have a checkered past. Some say it was only a "paper town." Others maintain it was a land fraud deal perpetuated by northerners and marketed across the US and abroad. Historical documents point to a thriving community with a post office, businesses, a school, farms and more. The fact is, Leroy was all…

Redlands, California: Pure Gold, [1955]. Stapled wraps. Very good. [12p.] Small chips to wrap edges. The Mutual Orange Distributors (MOD) was founded in Redlands, California, in 1906 as a cooperative marketing association representing citrus growers in California. Within a few years, the coop included citrus growers in western Arizona. In 1955, MOD changed its name to Pure Gold, originally the brand name for fruit grown by the approximately 2,500 MOD growers. Sunkist took over the Pure Gold trademark when the co-op closed in 1987 due to housing developments replacing the citrus fields and the shrinking number of packing plants. This booklet explains the history of the citrus-growing culture in California and Arizona and provides information on the variety of oranges, lemons, and grapefruit grown and their cultivation and packaging. A map on the back shows the regions represented by the Pure Gold cooperative. Scarce, none located in OCLC. B&w illustrations and halftone photographs. (11"x8-1/2")

He graduated from Amherst College in 1872. In 1873 Adams traveled to Europe to study and write. In 1874 he then moved to Heidelberg, Germany to pursue the Ph.D. degree. There he was influenced by Johann Gustav Droysen and Johann Kaspar Bluntschli, the latter also becoming his mentor. Heidelberg did not then require a thesis from its doctoral candidates, instead it required an oral examination, for which he chose political science for his major field (Hauptfach), with two minors… Leer más

[no place, but Cleveland, OH], 1959. Staplebound. Very good. Octavo, 4pp. Side-stapled with decorative ribbon added. Mimeographed cover and contents. Very good, with some creasing to covers. There is pen and pencil writing internally, and with the numerous corrections to dates and times, we presume that this program was used to draft the program for the coming season; that is, the corrections to dates, times, sponsors, and the league officers are indicated so that the new season's program will be updated. We could find no information about the "Queen Pin League," but it clearly seems to have been an all-women bowling league in the Cleveland area (with all Cleveland city businesses as sponsors). A light pencil drawing on the rear cover might be a mock-up for a new cover design. Highly ephemeral piece of Cleveland women's bowling history.
