Decorative hardbound boards are illustrated with colorful boats on a bright green background with a list of Maxton books listed on the back cover. The boards are in very good condition with no edge wear and only slight age damage to the laminate at the rear gutters There is slight wear at the top and bottom of the spine. All four corners have slight wear, more on top front. The spine and hinges are firmly attached, no cracking at endpapers but with a slight slant toward the bottom on front board. Text is block firmly attached with all pages intact to stitched binding. Very slight age tanning throughout. Interior pages are in very good condition with no tears, chips, cracks, or previous owner marks. Filled with full page and intext color and black and white illustrations. Unpaginated but approximately 30 pages.

Using easy to read text the author teaches about rivers – The Parts of a River, Influence on Civilization, St. Lawrence, Mississippi, Mackenzie, Yukon, Amazon, Colorado, Rio Grande, Seine, Rhine, Danube, Thames, Euphrates, Zambezi, Nile, Congo, Niger, Yangtze, Ganges and Jordon. Decorative endpapers show a globe with the location of all the rivers.

Edward Joseph Dreany (1908 – 1961) born in Ontario, Canada began his career working as an artist illustrating newspaper advertisements but by 1941 was freelancing, painting magazine covers for "Stag and Yarns". He soon found steady work illustrating juvenile adventure novels and pulp magazines. During WWII he was not eligible for military service in the Canadian but instead worked for the war relief effort. In 1946 he immigrated to the United States, first to Rochelle, New York (a prime location for top-notch illustrators) and then later to Stamford, Connecticut. He left behind a substantial body of illustrative work.
