Sobre este artículo

Hartford: Case, Lockwood & Brainard, 1872. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good. First edition. Privately printed for the author's family (as stated in the biographcal preface). Royal blue cloth with front board and spine lettered in gilt. All edge gilt. Oval fronispiece albumen photographic image of the young author holding a book; tissue guard. vii+ 171 pp. Introductory note by William Cullen Bryant remarking on the work of the author, who was "...so young, that is to say, of nine or ten years of age..." (the title page states that she was born April 18, 1861). There follows a six page biographical sketch (by her father, John) of the young girl and the story of how and when she wrote the pieces contained herein. A tight example but with tidemarking to the upper edges of the text block extending a bit down each side though not affecting the text. Scarce collection of short poems as well as three short dramatic pieces: "A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss", "No Use Crying for Spilled Milk", and "Victor, the King of Fairy-Land". Lucy's poetry is considered quite notable, especually given the tehder age of its author (Sanchez-Eppler "Dependent States: Child's Part in Nineteenth Century American Culture"
