(1st) Sturdy book, yellow cloth, an illustration of tiny owl with ornate border near center front, ornate black design and lettering very fine on spine, 315 pages. Essays including "Notes for a Journal," New England, The South, Poe, Hawthorne, Muir, John Butler Yeats, Twain and more. DJ creased inside both flaps, heavy paper with blue and yellow background, illustration of flowers on front. DJ has light wear to front bookfold edge, top front edge as well, very tiny nick at bottom front edge, thin chip along spine top edge, slight wear to spine bottom edge, white back very slightly soiled with praise from Edmund Wilson, Malcolm Cowley, Lewis Mumford and others. Fair DJ/Good book.
