London.: Church of England Zenana Missionary Society.. No date. (circa1900).. Nine printed sheets each printed with people or items and showing the cut lines. Original chromolithograph card box repaired with acid free archival tape along folds. Some occasional light foxing on sheets, card covers browned and worn in places, a few other minor signs of wear but generally very good. 43 x 24cm. The first two sheets show Chinese people in clothes appropriate to their age, occupation etc. Those illustrated include The Opium Smoker, School-master, The General Shopkeeper, Native Biblewoman etc. Other sheets show furniture and fittings, a coloured illustration of the street, a black and white image of the city gate and a much larger sheet (50 x 87.5cm) which is an illustration of the street and onto which the other cut-outs when coloured and cut out are placed. .

The front of the dust jacket has some marks, small tears / nicks to edges, a small surface loss, and a stain. Cloth boards are faded to the bottom and the boards are slightly warped. Neat bookseller label to the front of the dust jacket from La Librairie Francaise Peking - Tientsin. The bookshop was in the lobby of the Grand Hotel de Pekin and had a branch in Tientsin. Text and sepia reproductions of photographs taken by Ernst Boerschmann, documenting his journey in the 12 provinces: Zhili, Shandong, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Szechuan, Hupei, Hunan, Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangsu, Zhejiang. An accordian style book with wood covers. Front side appears to have some water damage. Twenty cases each has a hand colored illustration, two per page. Appears to be water color and colored pencil on silk with a silk background.
Outside dimensions 8 1/4" X 6. Upon opening there is a tear at the top and a knotch size hole at the inseam. The previous owner told me it is in Cantonese and it is also in English. It looks like the author's name is along the inside of the board but I can't read Cantonese. Ships with delivery confirmation where available.

Moisture marks to front cover. Particulars in gilt to spine, which is severely lacking the fabric. Bookplate removed from front pastedown. Odd pagination with corrections in pen to pages 161-163. Text block separated at page 258/259. ; xiii, 418 pages.

Paris: Chez le Rouge, 1776. 1st Edition. Cloth. Near Fine. Elephant Folio - over 15 - 23" tall. Four volumes. No date ( c. 1770's ). 1st ed. Oblong elephant folio ( 17.5 inches ). Modern burgundy cloth and end papers with simple gilt title on spines. Cahier One - 23 plates and 3pp of text ( lacks the four plates after the text ); Cahier Two - 23 plates plus the extra folding plate; Cahier Three - 28 plates; Cahier Four - 29 plates numbered 1 - 30 with #16 not present, probably as issued, as the on-line digital version is also so numbered. A total of 103 plates plus two extra. Front cover of Cahier One has a wear spot. The plates in the first three volumes are generally near Fine, Cahier Three has a few that have some minor to moderate spotting on the blank fore edge, the extra plate is Very Good + with some slight tanning along the fold line. The paper of Cahier Four seems to be of a lesser quality which has caused the margins to tan on most of the plates and 17 of them have lightly tanned over… Leer más
