Red coloured cloth covered boards with self embossed illustration to the front panel and gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Orange coloured tint to the top text edge. Illustrated dustwrapper with black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. The first part of the author's sequence of books known as The Human Comedy. Set in 1799 after the uprising in Brittany, and deals with the military history of that period of time as well as a love story between a female aristocrat and a anti-revolutionary activist. Rubbing of the book edges with darkening of the back strip. Light tanning of the text block edges and pages. A little chipping of the dustwrapper corners and to the top back strip edge. A few small tears to the top dustwrapper edge with sunning of the back strip. Size: 12mo (Small Hardcover). [6], VII - XIV, [2] 357, [11, of which eight further titles from series] pages,.
