'Christianity and Democracy is a brief but important study of the democratic philosophy of society and its indebtedness to Christian inspiration. This book marks a development in the political thought of Maritain, due no doubt in some measure to his experiences in the United States. It is his belief that the democratic impulse has arisen in human history as a temporal manifestation of the inspiration of the Gospel, and that a great renewal of the spirit is taking place which will tend to restore democracy to its true nature.
