1999-01-01. Paperback. Very Good. Christie's South Kensignton - Sale BKS 8635 [Published Date: 1999]. Catalog for auction of The G-Albert Petit Collection of Angling Books, Friday 8 October 1999. Paper covers, 61 pp. Catalog consists of 231 lots, some illustrated, with a few in color. All lots described in detail and with estimated prices. Includes bibliography. In very good condition. Glossy black illustrated paper covers have light bumping to edges and light overall scuffing. Binding tight (staple bound). Pages clean and unmarked. NOT Ex-Library. NO remainder marks. [From introduction] When the fine angling library- formed by G.-Albert Petit (1842-1920) was about to be dispersed at auction in the year after his death, Jacques 6th Baron of Neuflize (1883-1953), then president of the Casting Club of France, stepped in and negotiated to purchase the collection en bloc for himself. (The sale catalogue was published in 1921, but apparently not fully distributed; it has since become rare and much sought after.) Thus the collection links the names of two passionate anglers and equally passionate bibliophiles. Now that almost eighty years later the books will be ofFered on the open market, a few words should be devoted to these remarkable men, who more than anyone in France propagated in word and deed the noble sport (or art) of fly-fishing... Chrisitie's are pleased to offer the Petit-Neuflize collection, not least because it is surprisingly strong in English halieutic literature. The shared passion by the English and the French for shooting and hunting, as well as angling, is also amply reflected in the sale.
