Sobre este artículo
Carbonnek [London]: Privately printed for the Society of Pantagruelists,, 1888. First edition, number 217 of 250 copies, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper "E. M. from A. M" with the recipient's subsequent gift inscription below "To Geoffrey D. Dobson from E. M. 1910". The Chronicle of Clemendy is Machen's first collection of short stories. This "heavily tongue-in-cheek collection was probably written to satisfy one of the affectations of the day, bowdlerized, sentimentalized Rabelais with Machen's remarkable facility of writing leading to amusing stories with a bookish joi de vivre" (Bleiler). Octavo. Original vellum-backed blue paper boards by Wyman & Sons, titles to spine in gilt, top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Frontispiece with tissue guard. Vellum browned, faint soiling to boards, book block square, light foxing to outer leaves and very occasionally to contents, repair visible to gutter of front free endpaper, sometime re-tipped in; a very good copy in bright condition. Bleiler, Supernatural Fiction 1069; Goldstone & Sweetser 4a.
