Previous owners' name to the first blank of both volumes alongside a book plate, Arthur Davies Berrington, to the pastedowns of both. Edges of the text block lightly spotted. Hinges weak in both with the boards near detached. Volume I has a colour frontispiece pasted in. Hardcover. Fair. Leavitt & Allen, New York 1858 hardcover as pictured. Brown boards with gilt decor. Wear to spine ends, some fading/discoloration to colors on the spine edge of the front cover. Corners bumped, with some wear. Binding tight. Pages clean. Generally an attractive and collectible good copy.

Very good in three quarter leather with marbled paper covered boards and marbled endpapers, elaborate gold stamping on the spine, leather is worn and scuffed along the spine edges, ends of the spines, corners, the spine labels on volume one are chipped, endpapers are foxed, a small address label on the pastedown of volume I and an ink notation on the title page of volume I.

Spine divided into 6 compartments with gilt swords and knights in each compartment. Gilt edges, marbled endpapers. 116 cuts in the two volumes plus a number of colour plates throughout. darkening stain to spine ov volume 1. Bookplate to each volume on endpaper and ownership signature on title page of each volume. General edgewear but overall a very sharp atttractive set.
