New York, NY: Thomas Whittaker, 1896 Thomas Whittaker, New York. 1896. Hardcover. Stated Third Edition. Book is tight, has slight spine lean; and does have scattered pencil notations throughout; F/O bookplate on the front pastedown. Book Condition: Good +; wear and some wear through fabric at the head, tail, and tips. scattered moisture spots on the boards; some waving of pages from proximity to moisture but no signs of water damage to boards or text. No DJ. Burgundy cloth boards and spine with bright gilt lettering and decorations on the spine. Brown endpapers. Interior hinges are sound and not split. 440 pp 8vo. This book addresses the special religious need of our time and country. This is not instruction in the moral requirements of Christianity so much as the establishment of the fact that Christ founded a Church which has come down to us, and with some branch of which it is the privilege and duty of all to identify themselves. The idea that one Church is as good as another and that consequently it practically makes no difference to which we belong, is responsible for the enormous non-church element of the United States, which, according to the last census, amounted to more than half of the whole population, and for the loose hold which all bodies of Christians have upon their constituency. A clean very presentable copy.
