Washington, D.C.: Not Published, 1940. Black and white studio portrait, signed at bottom right of margin 'Hessler,' of George Meany (1894 - 1980) American labor leader "...Many thought he had long outlasted his time, but no national voice for labor's cause replaced Meany's in the increasingly hard times the union movement experienced following his death." (David Brody in the ANB); our research indicates that the image is most probably circa 1940s, by White House photographer Leo G. Hessler; margin trimmed unevenly and with a little glue residue at edges; otherwise in very good condition, well-taken and a strong portrait of the New York-born national labor leader in his prime. . Photograph. Not Bound. Very Good.
