New York: Simon & Schuster, 1942. First Edition 8vo size blue clothbound hardcover with gilt titles on spine; 482 toned pages. Arthur Garfield Hayes (1881–1954) was a prominent American lawyer who headlined many notable cases. He maintained both a private practice and served as general counsel of the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) from 1920 until his death. Among the notable cases or clients with which he was involved are: Dionne Quintuplets Sacco and Vanzetti Scopes Monkey Trial Scottsboro Case Hays Commission investigation of the Ponce, Puerto Rico massacre Ex-library with typical treatments. We suspect this book was professionally rebound in 1942 for library use and the heavy binding has held up well with only edgewear. Sunned spine, small spot on spine just above the title and some adhesive residue on front cover where barcode was removed. . First. Cloth. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Ex-Library.
