Carla Busquets: "The accordion book unfolds to a sea of abundance, with waves that merge with each other carrying fish of metallic tones.

2018. Barcelona: Carla Busquets, 2018. Digitally-printed image (6" x 7" approx.); hand-cut and mounted, housed in custom paste-covered box; fine. No. 4 of just 10 copies, signed and numbered by the artist on the back of the last leaf. A limited edition artwork, with the piano hinge structure based on innovations by renowned book artist Hedi Kyle. In this striking work the artist depicts the fearsome Kraken, a legendary creature that resembled a giant squid and was known for destroying ships. Here its massive tentacles rise from the churning waves as it approaches a doomed ship. Busquets is a skilled young paper artist, who opened her own studio, L a Frivé, whershe hosts workshops for paper artists of all ages in addition to practicing her craft. Carla Busquets: "An underwater scene where corals and seaweeds create an intimate yet colourful shelter for sea life. We can see jellyfish and other speciments floating amongst the plants or hiding behind the sand. The accordion layers only attached to each other in certain parts allow for the book to stand in different positions, ressembling the fluid and changing nature of the ocean and its life underneath.

This fabulous poster was created especially for the featured author of Texas Writers Month in 2000 held in Austin, Texas by graphic designer Marc English. It is printed on heavy high quality coated stock in metalic inks: silver and bronze and laid over a duotone photograph of the rugged Big Bend country of West Texas. The poster quotes a long scene from McCarthy's BLOOD MERIDIAN with drops of bronze red blood for emphasis. This is a stunning visual and carries the impact of the original text depicting a scene of horror as the savages line up on horseback along the ridge their glass beads and painted bodies caught forever in the sun's hot glare as they anticipate the massacre that would follow. Only McCarthy could make this scene so vivid you might have to put the book down and never finish it.
