Frank Hamrick: "My niece, Madalyn, and her brother, Copeland, explore Georgia with me, canoeing the Ocmulgee, crossing the rocks below the dam at Juliette to discover an island full of goats. Upstream from the Indian mounds a cottonmouth reroutes us to an arrowhead washed ashore. Madalyn, barefoot and without her license, drives her great-grandfather's truck as I sit in the back holding the boat. We pick blackberries and find Elizabeth Reed's grave after lunch at the H&H. Madalyn will now attend college on Coleman Hill. Money from the sale of this book goes towards her tuition.

Steven Point, Wisconsin:: Arcadian Press,, 2014.. Edition of 35. 5.25 x 6"; 32 pages. Letterpress printed with Michael Bixler's Cochin Light, Bodoni, and one wood letter. Handmade Root River Mill flax by Brian Borchardt, Jeff Morin, Lisa Beth Robinson, and Caren Heft. Paper-covered boards with jagged top edges. Copper breast made by blacksmiths Mindy and Mark Gardner attached to front board. Numbered. Lisa Beth Robinson relates the ordeal of her mother's breast cancer, which occurred in 1973 when Lisa Beth was five and her brother, Draco, was three-and-a-half: "a hard dose of radiation combined with a mastectomy and the removal of local lymph nodes" was the "cure" then. Watching her mother ("until I was a teenager I never saw a woman with two breasts") has had strong influence on Robinson's sense of her own body.

Quilcene, Washington:: Pied Typer Press,, 2016.. Edition of 13. 7.5 x 10" double-sided lightweight sheet with pocket containing 15 postcards (4 x 6"). Front designed to look like soldier's uniform pocket with magnet button closure and title on name bar. Back side image of "Commander's Monthly Review. Peter Newland, Preface: "During the [Vietnam] war our unit's job was to hand produce a cargo tracking tome called the Commander's Monthly Review and to prepare charts, overhead transparencies, and illustrations for the Colonel's briefings. The poster pictured on the front of this card was an attempt to interject some humor into mostly serious business. We make no claim to being prescient and frankly can't explain why now travel to Vietnam is all the rage. "It is unlikely that today's tour guides point out that there are 58,267 names on our Vietnam War Memorial. A wall for Vietnamese soldiers would need to be at least twice as long. Nearly two…

Atlanta, GA:: Nexus Press,, 1995.. 30 cards, 1 folded single sheet. Mohawk paper In card box with slip and slot closure. Sgined by the artist. Judy Anderson: "This book was created during an artist residency at Nexus Press where I worked with a press-man on a Heidelberg Press. 500 large sheets of Mohawk paper were overprinted with 15 offset litho plates images and trimmed to twenty-nine cards that fit into a paper box. The overprinted images depict the contradictory treatment of women in our contemporary world. Text from the daily news is collaged with text from advertising. The abstract and symbolic images of women respond to the objectification of woman as a beautiful object, to love, own, violate and control. " Colophon: "This book began in outrage, a response to the increasing reports of violence against women in the world. It's ending marks a beginning, of understanding and balance. Text fragments were taken from the daily news, juxtaposed with one woman's voice.

Susan Viguers: "'The Thing Is, You Guys' explores the experience of aging - embarrassing, painful, sad, comical. The brief narratives are presented in the context of blind contour self-portraits and a dirge sung by the author/artist in her childhood, 'When you ever see a hearse go by'.
The dirge is a 'song' - as I remember it from my childhood - which we sang when we saw a hearse drive by." A…

Los Angeles, California:: Cheri Gaulke,, 2005.. Edition of 50. Marriage Matters was written by Cheri Gaulke and designed by Gaulke and Sue Maberry. It was color laser printed on iridescent Stardream paper in shades of purple, lavender, white and peach with a silk ribbon closure. The accordion spine allows the book's covers to open back and be held with the silk ribbon. With the alternating vertical and horizontal pages splayed open, the book's shape resembles a two-tiered wedding cake. This book is luscious looking and filled with juicy details! This book was made possible in part by a grant from the City of Los Angeles, Cultural Affairs Department. In a year of intensifying public debate about the freedom to marry, Cheri Gaulke and Sue Maberry invited 10 lesbian and gay couples to go to Sears and have their portraits taken. The portraits were accompanied by personal stories and the story of Maberry and Gaulke's own 26-year relationship in an artists' book, Marriage Matters. The book…

Signed and numbered by the artist. The artist created her own A to Z set of animals. The story goes that after a flood in Waukesha the animals of the A Through Z Pet Emporium escaped their cages and fled to the upper floors. After the waters receded and the animals returned to their "homes," thirteen babies were found. Curiosities of nature had been born: a Bassadillo (armadillo + basset hound); a Herrhound (greyhound + heron); a Narth (moth + narwhal), etc. We always knew that mixing it up was fun, but this is wonderfully outrageous.

Boston, MA:: Photographic Resource Center,, 1988.. 18 x 23 cm; 320 unnumbered pages. Printed on Mohawk Superfine paper for the text. Sewn signatures adhesive-bound into an illustrated purple paper wrapper with title stamped in gilt on front of wrapper and on spine. Janet Zweig: "The 9th Century character in the 1001 Nights, told stories within stories in order to save her own life. 'Sheherezade, the flip book', is an exploration of recursion, of things within things. Zweig asked the writer Holly Anderson to write five stories, each nested within the next, about women revealing or withholding information. The book flips to reveal each story inside the letterforms of the previous story. The unique spelling of the name is meant to unfold the phrases: 'She here,' 'She her,' 'She he,' 'She,' successively. On the left page corners, a woman takes off her dress and throws it out of the book, to reveal the same dress underneath for five iterations.…

Austin: Texas Writers Project, 2000. Original . Broadside. FINE. 24 x 36 inches, printed on high quality coated stock with metalic ink. Shipped- rolled in heavy tube. This fabulous poster was created especially for the featured author of Texas Writers Month in 2000 held in Austin, Texas by graphic designer Marc English. It is printed on heavy high quality coated stock in metalic inks: silver and bronze and laid over a duotone photograph of the rugged Big Bend country of West Texas. The poster quotes a long scene from McCarthy's BLOOD MERIDIAN with drops of bronze red blood for emphasis. This is a stunning visual and carries the impact of the original text depicting a scene of horror as the savages line up on horseback along the ridge their glass beads and painted bodies caught forever in the sun's hot glare as they anticipate the massacre that would follow. Only McCarthy could make this scene so vivid you might have to put the book down and never finish it.
