Sobre este artículo

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 1998. Hardcover. Kennedy, Frances H. [Ed.]; Noonan, Patrick F. [Foreword]: The Civil War Battlefield Guide: The Definitive Guide, Completely Revised, with New Maps and More Than 300 Additional Battles (Second Edition). Boston : Houghton Mifflin, 1998. Second edition. Size is octavo (8vo), 9.25"/24cm h. Quarterbound in publisher's burgundy paper boards, black paper spine. Gilt lettering imprinted to spine. Glossy color dustjacket features photo/maps collage to front. Plain white endpapers. Xxx pp prelim material, 495 numbered pp, three unnumbered following. Numerous color topographic maps, mainly of the USGS 1:24000 or so scale type, some of a more sepia tone historic nature. B&w photos. Information on 384 battlefields, from Charleston 1861 to Palmito Ranch, Texas, May 1865. Appendices (the 384 principal battlefields; excerpt from the Civil War Sites Advisory Commission Report on the Nation's Civil War Battlefields; Lost and Fragmented Battlefields; War Statistics), glossary, index. Condition notes: A nice copy with no notes or highlighting. Spine ends rolled, otherwise light wear to cover and dj (no tears to latter). The kind of resource that would have been indispensable pre-internet is still pretty darn useful. From Florida to Pennsylvania all the way to Idaho and New Mexico, it's all here. We inspect every book before offering it for sale.

Sinopsis

This new edition of the definitive guide to Civil War battlefields is really a completely new book. While the first edition covered 60 major battlefields, from Fort Sumter to Appomattox, the second covers all of the 384 designated as the "principal battlefields" in the Civil War Sites Advisory Commission Report. As in the first edition, the essays are authoritative and concise, written by such leading historians as James M. McPherson, Stephen W. Sears, Edwin C. Bearss, James I. Robinson, Jr., and Gary W. Gallager. The second edition also features 83 new four-color maps covering the most important battles. The Civil War Battlefield Guide is an essential reference for anyone interested in the Civil War.
