Alumni book prepared for a class reunion celebrating and accounting for 50 years since graduation. Then a college for men to graduate in 1942, some classmates left their numbers to enlist in the armed forces and train for combat in World War II. Commencement was accelerated as 82% "were in service or about to be", noted 1992 College President James O. Freedman in his letter to the reunion. Of those, 33 lost their young lives to that war, including the Class of 1942 Valedictorian.
