Sobre este artículo

LONDON : Whittaker, Treacher, & Co., 1832 A good copy of Class Insecta in 2 volumes - parts XIV and XV of the 16 volume series of 'The Animal Kingdom arranged in conformity with its organization by the Baron Cuvier,' translated and written by Edward Griffith and others. The set is complete in itself with 136 black and white and 4 colour plates. The series was issued in 3 formats and this is the rarer quarto version. The volumes have been rebound in maroon buckram cloth with gilt titles to spine and 'Foyle' printed at the spine base. The bindings are clean and bright with general light wear to spine ends and some darkened areas to the spines. Vol 1 of the set has bumping to bottom corners and turning to the top corners. There is a cloth crease towards the bottom corner of the front board. Vol 2 has bumping to top corners and turning to bottom corners. There is some scuffing to the back board. Internally both have newer endpapers. Each volume has 2 title pages (series and volume) and both have the titles partly attached to the front endpaper at the gutter. The volumes have stamps from the Union Club - both titles are stamped. Contents - Vol 1: titles; plate list to both volumes 4 pp (plates are out of numerical sequence across both volumes); text pp 1-570 with 50 plates. Vol 2: titles; text pp 1780 with 86 black and white and 4 colour plates; alphabetical list pp 781-796. Overall the contents are in good clean condition with occasional light soot marking in the top margin and the occasional spot or mark. Vol I: repaired tear to series title in the gutter; consistent light crease at top corner; some grubbiness to p 570; and library stamps as follows: bottom margin touching text pp 71, 199, 283, 369, 485; side margin pp 197, 297 and 495; blank area p 169. Plate 11 has been tipped onto the plate backing and is beginning to detach at the top. Vol 2: old repair with some form of tape to side of series title; first 2 gathers beginning to detach due to way front endpapers have been laid; p 631 - repaired paper flaw tear; p 796 with some marking; library stamps at pp 119, 255, 483, 593 (bottom margin touching text) and 355 (side margin). Sobre E C Books

E C Books is a small online bookselling business, specialising in pre 20th century works:natural history, science, history, and travel, aiming for rarer and more unusual books. Our largest stock area is Natural History, where we have a good range of books from the 1700-1800's, many finely illustrated. Other areas include children's books, particularly late 1800's-early 1900's - again illustrated; and literature pre 1900.When you order books from us we ensure that they are properly packed to protect condition, and we always use recorded or 'signed for' postal services for more secure delivery. Please note that we have recently moved to the beautiful Orkney Islands, where we intend to open a bookshop over the next year. Because of our location we cannot guarantee 'next day' delivery but we will get your purchase to you as quickly and safely as we can. Please note that the buyer is responsible for the payment of any tax or duty on import.
