Daniel Brodhead [1736-1809] was a deputy surveyor for Pennsylvania before serving in the Continental Army from 1776-1783 and spending the infamous winter at Valley Forge. He was commissioned Lieutenant Colonel of the 8th Pennsylvania Regiment at the start of the War, and then commissioned General. He fought in the Battle of Long Island after which he was recognized by Gen. George Washington for bravery. He also fought in the battles of Bound Brook, Brandywine, Paoli and Germantown. He conducted numerous raids against hostile Indian tribes including the Sullivan Expedition and Coshocton Expedition.
