Deighton is a prolific author and has written cook books and historical military works, though he is best known for his spy novels. In this work we meet ageing Hollywood star Marshall Stone. When he hears that a famous author is writing his biography he soon finds himself reliving painful memories and scandals seek to destroy the fictitious version of his life that he has created.
