The first volume in Hill's long-running series featuring Yorkshire detectives Andrew Dalziel and Peter Pascoe. "Connon is a former star of the local rugby club. He plays in a match for old times' sake and gets a severe kick on the head. He returns home to sleep off the ill effects and when he goes downstairs again, there's his wife, May, still sitting in front of the TV where he left her.
