INSCRIBED BY FORD on half-title, "For Denise Close with affection, for her birthday, Ford Madox Ford, Stamford," and dated December 17, 1938 in Roman numerals. Spine faded, inner hinges a bit toned (offset from binding), otherwise very good in about very good, price-clipped dust jacket with shallow chipping to spine ends and corners, splits at folds internally repaired with archival tape, and spine a bit darkened and rubbed.
