Linus Pauling (1901-1994) became interested in what is now called "molecular biology" in the late thirties, after he had completed most of his work on the chemical bond, for which he won the 1954 Nobel Prize in chemistry. His primary interest was the molecular structure of proteins in the blood. This group of papers details many of his discoveries in the area of protein structure, including the pleated-sheet configurations such as hair, feather, muscle and tendon, silk, horn, gelatine, hemoglobin, and synthetic polypeptides; and also his work on polypeptide chains. Many of these findings are most profoundly illustrated by Pauling's wonderful molecular models, built during his years at Caltech. Includes: Pauling, Linus, Robert B. Corey, and H.R.
