Tear to head of spine, running 60mm down from the top of the rear joint and then 20mm across the face of the spine. 20mm tear to cloth at tail of front joint. 6mm missing to cloth at head and tail of spine. Internally very good. Folding map in very good condition, with light foxing.; xi, 248, [4 (advertisements)] pages + one folding hand-coloured map. Brown cloth boards with printed paper spine label. Page dimensions: 223 x 139mm. Dimensions of folding map: 273 x 219mm. The folding map is of North America, and has Canada coloured in pink and the United States coloured with three shades of green. "The whole that is marked with the shades of Green, constitutes the present United States of America. The darkest shade of Green shows the present extent of the Old Thirteen States who declared themselves independent in 1776. The next shade shows the extent of the States and Territories that have been added to the Union since the year 1783, when the United States were by us acknowledged to be independent. The lightest shade of Green shows the Wild Lands belonging to the United States not yet constituted Territories according to their system. The Red shows the exten of the English possession in North America. On the Green, there are now dwelling nearly 25,000,000 of souls - excluding Indiand. On the Red, there are less than 2,000,000 of souls, also excluding the Indian Tribes." - Explanation of the Annexed Map.
