An absolute corker of a read. A gripping tale of adventure, character and ambition for a newly promoted commander of a passenger liner between the wars. A thoroughly English story of the sea, of ships, passengers and crew travelling back and forth from Tilbury to Australia and always the question of what the commander shall do, or be expected to do. The words and language used throughout the book have that old fashioned pacy cleverness that, to me, is really enjoyable. Storytelling as it used to be. Really good.
