Prefaced by a four-page dedication to Cardinal Odoardo Farnese, patron of the arts; a note to the reader by Fernando Rebello, doctor of theology & chancellor at the Univ. of Évora; and an epigram by Jesuit Emmanuel Pimenta. Rebound in dark brown roan leather, titled in gilt on upper cover. Ornamented throughout with black & white vignettes, tailpieces, decorative drop capitals, etc. Text in Latin. Brás Viegas (1553-1599) was a Portuguese Jesuit, teacher of theology & professor sacred scripture. His exegesis on the Book of Revelation was notable in the 17th-century and went through several editions. An fine old work of jesuit exegesis preserved in a rather plain binding.
