Basel: Oporinus, 1564. First edition. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. Remigius G. Folio, 32cm., bound in contemporary manuscript with leather label attached.335pp plus index collated complete. Adams L-344 the variant with the woodcut printers device of Oporinus and not of Episcopius. Wolfgang Lazius, known by his portrait by Archimboldo ('The Librarian'), was the curator of the imperial collections of the Holy Roman Empire and official historian to Emperor Ferdinand I.
Front end leaf has ink inscription and book label of Kimbolton Castle. Mild water damage throughout entire book (cover + text block). Cover is soiled and worn and has several small holes. End leaves are separating from cover at top left corner. Outer 2/3 of last blank page is missing. Edges of pages are soiled and tanned with an ink stamp on outer edge (not visible inside).
