Frontispiece, title page vignette, b&w illustrations within text, and one plate. Half leather with marbled paper boards. Boards rubbed, edges worn. No spine title. Bookplate for James Spreull and ink note on front pastedown. Foxing and stains throughout. Pencil scribble on a front endpaper. Fold-out "Synoptical Table" is mainly torn out.
"Comprising Instructions for the buying, breeding, rearing, and fattening of Cattle. Directions for the choice of the best Breeds of Live Stock. The Treatment of their Diseases, and the Management of Cows and Ewes, during the critical Times of Calving and Yeaning. The general Economy of a Grassfarm, especially Irigiation, or Watering of Meadows; Culture of the best natural and artificial Grasses and Plants for Fodder; Various Methods of cutting, mixing, and preparing Food in severe Winters, and Seasons of Scarcity; The Economy and general Management of the Dairy, including the making, curing, and preservation of butter and cheese, &c. &c. Together with a Synoptical Table of the different breeds of Neat Cattle, Sheep, and Swine."
James Spreull (19081998) was a 20th-century Scottish veterinarian, professor, and scientific author, a pioneer of tissue and skin transplant in animals. This book appears to have come from his private collection.
