Sobre este artículo
Ad 1-3: The Hague, Nijhoff, 1938-1964. Ad 4: Paris, Fondation Custodia, 1987. Ad 5: Amsterdam and The Hague, Nijhof, 1956 (facsimile reprint of the 1921 edition). Ad 6: Ibid, 1956, 1938. Very good. Together 6 vols., large 4to., all bound in original publisher's cloth. In UNMARKED and UNSPOILED condition. NOT ex-library! BEAUTIFUL SET, RARELY FOUND COMPLETE AND IN SUCH EXCELLENT CONDITION.
¶ REPERTOIRE DES CATALOGUES DE VENTES PUBLIQUES: more than 100,000 sale catalogues of art, furniture, ceramics, bronzes, antiquities and many other collectible areas, arranged chronologically, with details of auctions in Europe, England, and the U.S., as well as recording copies in which prices and/or buyers' names appear in manuscript. Lugt also indicates library locations of the catalogues whenever known. Lugt's "Repertoire" remains UNSURPASSED; it is easily one of the most widely consulted art historical reference works ever created. The complete "Lugt Repertoire" is NOT online. Brill has a pay firewall, but only the first THREE volumes have been digitized (1600-1900).
CONTENTS: (Vol. I, 1938): 1ere periode 1600-1825; (Vol. II, 1953): 2eme periode 1826-1860; (Vol. III, 1964): 3eme periode 1861-1900; (Vol. IV, 1987): 4eme periode 1901-1925 (spine a little palm-soiled). All 4 vols. have fore-edge tabs affixed indicating "Liste des Abbreviations."
Rarely found complete, as here. The last copy of all 4 vols. to appear at auction sold in 2017 for EUR 2,032 (not including international shipping). The only other complete set currently on the market is a shabby, partially rebound copy being offered by a Dutch dealer for approximately $3400 not including international shipping (or the 2-volume "Marques des collections")!
¶ MARQUES DES COLLECTIONS: Reproducing more than 6000 ownership marks, and marks of public and private collections of prints and drawings; marks of artists and engravers; printers' marks; etc. Additionally, there are valuable historical records of auctions, dealers, and much more. Indispensible even for historians of book provenance. Our copy bears the discrete bookseller's label of C.G. Rosenberg, London, and the name of the first owner: "Hylton A. Thomas, London, 1957." Vol. 1 with paperclip mark on first few pages, rear joint partially cracked but perfectly sound.
REFERENCES: "Repertoire" = Arntzen and Rainwater C17 ("Indispensable for ascertaining provenances of works of art and for locating copies of sale catalogues"). "Marques" = Arntzen and Rainwater C27.
