Sobre este artículo

London. William Boyer. 1767. Bound in full, silver gilt tiled modern faux morocco. Siver gilt titles and date to spine. Thick 4to. 8.5" x 11". The First Edition. Illustrated by examples of coinage en texte, tables, etc. This learned and ingenious work is said to have made its appearance from the press in consequence of a discovery made by Martin Folkes, Esq. of the old Saxon pound ; and it now forms the chief foundation of Mr. Clarke's literary character. It was extolled by the scholars of his day as replete with curious and profound learning, and not less remarkable for the clearness and sagacity of its reasoning, than for the taste and discernment displayed in its specimens and illus- trations. The publication was followed by letters of congratulation from some of the most distin- guished persons in the kingdom ; and notwithstand- ing the progress of antiquarian knowledge since his time, it still continues to be a standard work upon the subject, and is consulted by all who are desirous of cultivating this recondite department of ancient literature. Records indicate no copy of the First Edition has been offered at Auction in over 20 years. Several tiny light scuffs to covers.Small gouge to fore-edge. tiny dark spot to Top Edge. Edges of Title Page and two Index pages are chipped and have been professionallly bordered for protection with conservator's trasparent strip adhesicve to a most fastidious effect. This preservation in now way intrudes upon text block. An extremely crisp, fresh and clean copy of this extraordinarily rare and important numismatic classic.
