Washington DC: National Council Against Conscription, 1957. Newsletter. One hundred and sixty-one issues of the newsletter opposing the draft and Universal Military Training, published between November 21st, 1944 and June 20th, 1957; earlier issues without mention of publisher. Average length around 4 pages. A few issues, including the first, are unevenly toned, otherwise generally very good with occasional pencil markings. Issues present are: Nos. 1-4, 6-18, 21, 25, 29-55, 58-61, 63-68, 70, 72-76, 78, 81, 86-87, 90-92, 100-101, 107-110, 112-113, 115, 118-129, 133-136, 148-170, 176-177, 183-189, 182, 192, 194-196, 199-200, 203, 205, 207-209, 211-214, 216, 219-229, 233-236, 238-239, 241-243. (No. 45 is misnumbered 46, and no. 156 is misnumbered 155). Also present, and not included in the count, are a "Special Issue" dated January 9th, 1945 about President Roosevelt's calls for national service legislation, a "Special Supplement" dated October 23rd, 1945, a printed letter about the House Military Affairs Committee's conscription bill, and an action letter to supporters. Issues from the late stages of WWII address the prospects for postwar military conscription; publication continued through the Korean War and went on to criticize what it called militarist education in the schools during the Cold War.
