The Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada (Cominco) was formed in 1906 by the amalgamation of the St. Eugene, Centre Star, and War Eagle Mines, the Rossland Power Company, and the Canadian Smelting Works. The Canadian Pacific Railway Company held the controlling interest. It completed its pioneer electrolytic zinc plant in Trail in 1916. The company changed its name to Cominco Ltd. in 1966.
