Sobre este artículo

New York: William Pearson & Co., 1835. Hardcover. Fair. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, original dark green patterned cloth boards, gilt text on spine. Exterior shows wrinkling and bumping as well as wear. Rear board has possible dampstain and large split to the cloth along the spine edge. Yellow end pages and front and rear, front pastedown and end page has pencil markings and signatures, second end page has an additional two signatures all showing the owner as Henry Robinson (not able to verify if this is the same person as Henry R. Robinson). All essays show the same publisher and copyright on the title pages. Various degrees of foxing is present throughout but binding is securing for the text pages. Front hinge is cracked and rear hinge is starting. This book contains seven different essays by various authors, with the full titles being as follows: "The Constitution Of Man Considered In Relation To External Objects" (61 pp.) by George Combe / "Essays In A Series Of Letters, On The Following Subjects: On A Man's Writing Memoirs Of Himself. On Decision Of Character. On The Application Of Epithet Romantic. On Some Of The Causes By Which Evangelical Religion Has Been Rendered Less Applicable To Persons Of Cultivated Taste." (133 pp.) by John Foster / "The Philosophy Of Sleep" and "Anatomy Of Drunkenness" (96 pp.) both by Robert MacNish / "Influence Of Literature Upon Society" and "Reflections of Suicide" (113 pp.) by Madame de Stael-Holstein / "Treatise On Self-knowledge; Showing In Nature And Benefit Of That Important Science, And The Way To Attain It: Intermixed With Various Reflections And Observations On Human Nature" (43 pp.) by John Mason. All essays show the same publisher and location but no where is there a copyright date. Preface is dated 1828 but this is the case for all printings of this collection and the publisher, Silas Andrus & Son, was not in business until 1831. Estimated publication date to be 1835 as later editions released by this publisher listed a date on the bottom of the title page.

Yesterday's Book Shop (Member IOBA)

Purchases will ship by US Media Mail or Priority Mail (if buyer selects) and higher priced items may have insured placed on the order and will typically ship within one business day. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 5 lbs., but only in unusual cases. Insurance is available upon request though we normally place insurance on any item of $75 or higher at no additional cost to the buyer. Non-US sales will ship by First Class International or Global Priority. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 4 lbs.

We always take extra care in packaging and shipping. Books are typically wrapped in packing paper or bubblewrap before packaged in a sturdt shipping box. All orders, even those shipped by US Media Mail, will be given a USPS tracking number which will be sent to the buyer so they will know when to expect arrival. Please let us know if there is a book with incorrect or missing photos. We recently moved the inventory to Biblio and a title or two may have had issues with the photos being transferred over.

Yesterday's Book shop is owned and operated by a disabled veteran. Due to my limitations, I often have to rely on speech-to-text software to list the books. If the description has typos ("and pages" instead of "end pages", pace downs instead of pastedowns, guilt instead of gilt, etc,) PLEASE let me know so I can correct the listing. The software spells words by phonetics and can make errors that I may not catch.

There is a 30 day money back guarantee if the book arrives damaged or is not as described. Please contact us prior if you have any issues with your purchases and we will make sure you are taken care of.

Sobre Yesterday's Book Shop (Member IOBA)

Yesterday's Book Shop is an independent, family-owned establishment. The store first opened in 1966 under the name Collector's Corner and was located in Western Maryland. The Collector's Corner dealt mainly in books but also sold stamps and assorted ephemera. In 1975 the name was changed to Yesterday's Book Shop when the store only offered books and printed matter. In the early 2000s the brick and mortar store was closed and now we only sell online.

All of the book pictures were taken at the time the book was listed and we never use generic or stock photos in any listing. If you would like additional photos or information on any listing please let us know and we will be more than happy to comply.
