It doesn't appear that they were ever bound in. 5 vols; 24mo; full polished calf; spines lettered, with elaborate decoration in gilt; 2 green, 1 brown leather spine labels; green ribbon markers; marbled endpapers. Leading corners volume one with wear through to boards at corner tips; volume 5 light rubbing with a hint of cracking to top half inch of front joint, and a faint dampstain lower leading margins pps. 37-60; small gap of worming foot of spine volume 2. Still overall a clean, tight, and attractive little set. TEXT IN FRENCH. D'Aunoy was known for her literary fairy tales told in the conversational manner of the salon. First published in 1697, she called her works contes des fees (fairy tales), which generally became the term used for the genre. .
