New York: Harper & Brothers 1927, 1st edition. (Hardcover) Very good, no dust jacket. 89pp. Black cloth spine with marbled paper covered boards. Illustrations. The bottom edge of the front cover is slightly bumped, the corners are edgeworn, and the dust jacket flap has been taped to the front endpaper. "[Cullen] is established as one of the vivid figures in the younger group of modern poets. 'Most things I write,' he says, 'I do for the sheer love of the music in them. Somehow or other, however, I find my poetry of itself treating of the Negro, of his joys and his sorrows - mostly of the latter, and of the heights and depths of emotion which I feel as a Negro'".
