Sobre este artículo
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1893. First Edition. A novel centered around the social drama which unfolds in an upstate New York town during the Civil War. The protagonist, Abner Beech, is a Northerner opposed to the invasion of the South; he is branded a "copperhead" by his abolitionist neighbors, persecuted, and has his home burnt to the ground. A short but powerful novel focused on the history of dissent during a tumultuous time in our country's history, and the basis for a recent film adaptation by Ronald F. Maxwell. A considerably expanded edition was published in London by William Heinemann the following year. BAL 6278. First Printing, one of 1,650 copies. Octavo; publisher's red-brown 'V' cloth, with titling and decorative elements stamped in gilt, black, and dark brown on spine and front panel; 197pp. Contemporary ink inscription on front free endpaper, with some trivial rubbing to extremities, else Fine and in an excellent state of preservation.
