London: [Her Majesty's Sationery Office], 1853. First edition, one leaf, printed on both sides. A very good copy, very slight edge wear. Lord Wodehouse, who became the first Earl of Kimberley in 1866, was a Liberal politician. At the time of this correspondence he was Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs in Lord Aberdeen's ministry. Brooke typically answered the accusation with gusto, concluding "I shall be glad to find that Mr. Hume can as easily explain the statements advanced in his pamphlet as I am enabled to remove the apparent discrepancy alleged to be contained in mine".

Descripción:
London, John Murray, 1848, two volumes in octavo (22 x 14 cm), elegant contemporary half leather binding (by Carss & Coi, Glasgow) with reinforced corners, two labels, gilt decorations and titles on the spine, marbled boards, sprinkled edges, pp. XVII-385 with a lithographic frontispiece (some foxing), a second lithographic plate, seven steel engravings, and three lithographic folding maps, one of which is hand-coloured + pp. XI-395 with a lithographic frontispiece, five other lithographic plates, three steel engravings, and two folding maps. Complete work with all the illustrations. Slight signs of use on the bindings (corners slightly worn, small peelings); some foxing, not too marked and disfiguring, only on lithographic plates, probably due to the quality of the paper (the portrait of the author on the frontispiece being the most affected). Yet, a well-bound copy in near fine condition. Noble ex-libris on front endpaper (James Hunter, Hafton). First edition. National Maritime Museum, I, 461.… Leer más
